Moss Oaks 2023 Rosé & 2022 Home Fields Pinot Noir are in the bottle. For different reasons, both these wines have been particularly challenging to grow & make. Every step has been a battle - against the elements, logistics ... luck. We feel each represents a massive investment of our energy, endeavour & endurance. It was an extraordinary day when both safely made it to bottle. Confident each is beyond ordinary in its own way. We particularly enjoyed watching the bottling of the Moss Oaks Rosé - with its gay colour and handsome yellow jacket it brought a sense of brightness & summer to a grey day in Martinborough.
Attention turns to winter pruning - a vital task that sets up the current & coming seasons. Making progress. Still very sodden underfoot but vines appear to be in good order, in their winter hiberation.
Hearing the first bleats of new lambs in neighbouring fields. Magpies - evoked in Dennis Glover's NZ rural gothic poem https://allpoetry.com/The-Magpies - are being very territorial, chasing off kārearea & any other interlopers. Percursors to spring, said with wilful optimism!
